Social Anxiety 101
So hi there! As you may or may not know, I have social anxiety (which is not fun when you go to a very large school). I’m not sure how it feels to others to have social anxiety, but I’m going to be writing a piece to kinda sum up how the mc with social anxiety would be feeling in some situations.
DISCLAIMER: I am not a doctor, and I am not a poster child for social anxiety. What I feel may or may not be a common experience. If you identify with what the mc is feeling, go see a doctor or something, idk.
Scenario One: You’re sitting with a group of friends when you finish a pot of yoghurt. There’s a bin a few metres away from you, but the place you’re sitting is very crowded. There are so many people that could judge you, and look at you. You could make a fool of yourself going to the bin, like you could trip over or you could have food on your shirt. You feel sick and dizzy. You decide not to go to the bin, and when your friend gets up, you ask if they can put the empty yoghurt pot in the bin.
Scenario Two: One of your friends recently went through a breakup. They’re getting lots of support, and they ask you and some of your friends to meet them out in the courtyard before school tomorrow so you can all talk. The courtyard is the biggest area in the school, and it’s always jam-packed with people. You get there and you can see the breakup friend and your friends through the crowd of people. You feel like you’re gonna throw up. You can’t imagine walking through all those people. Your friends are really loud, and all the people are really loud, and you’re getting pretty overwhelmed. You know if you don’t get away, something very bad is going to happen, so you run away. (I FEEL SO GUILTY ABOUT THIS CAUSE IT ACTUALLY HAPPENED)
So that’s how I feel in those scenarios. If anyone else has social anxiety here, tell me how you’d feel- it’d be pretty interesting. I might do some more of these if people like it ;P
also how fitting is it that the acronym for social anxiety disorder is S.A.D.
